Gerard ter Borch (1617-1681) was a Dutch genre painter during the Dutch Golden Age.
I find his women, with their scraped-back hair and their up-turned noses quite moving.
And he is brilliant at painting the texture of their dresses. The silvery white dress in the painting with the red bed he used in more paintings, often even in the same position.
My personal favorites are the lice-hunting mother and the girl in peasant dress.
