The work of Dutch (writer and) illustrator Margriet Heymans (1932) always reminds me of medieval miniatures.
This is partly because of the way she makes everything happen on a sort of stage, against a horizon. This is, incidently, how I like to work too. But the medieval atmosphere also comes from the little bodies she gives her characters, and how they move. There is something naive about them.
The black and white drawings are beautiful, but I absolutely love her full colour work.
