Almost exactly a year ago I saw an exhibition in London of the work of the American painter John Singer Sargent (1856-1925)
Singer Sargent may be best known for his stunning society portraits, but he also made more informal portraits, like the watercolour of Violet Sargent above, and the drawings on both sides of it.
He also painted many watercolours on his travels, and later in life he drew impressive portraits of wounded soldiers during World War One.
