The Italian painter Antonio Donghi (1897-1963) is described on Wikipedia as a magical realist.
I am not too fond of magical realism, but I quite like Donghi's portraits, that seem a bit staged, sometimes even funny.
His selfportrait is downright jaunty!
Donghi's work was populair till somewhere in the 1940s.
It was a bit of a shock to find an equastrian portrait of Mussolini among his work!
